Dirk Koester

Dirk Koester, a cognitive neuroscientist with a background in psychology set up and is in charge of  the Cognition EEG-lab in the Neurocognition and Action - Biomechanics Research Group at Bielefeld University, Germany. The research in the Cognition EEG-lab focuses on the brain functions underlying action perception, representation (memory) and control. Furthermore, interactions of manual actions (grasping) with other cognitive functions as working memory, language and attention are investigated. A recent addition are devlepmental aspects of motor skills and how practise impacts these motor skills. Methodologically, we now also combine EEG recordings with eye-tracking measures and relate these to kinematic effects.

The projects are coordinated with cognitive and biomechanic measurements in other labs of the Neurocognition and Action Group and in cooperation with the Excellence cluster Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC).The joint purpose is to foster our understanding of human cognition and action control. Such knowledge is also relevant for applied settings as in sport psychology, rehabilitation and cognitive interaction technology.
